TAWAU, April 16 ― The tugboat crew member who was shot by an armed group in waters off southern Philippines yesterday is in stable condition.
According to Indonesian Consulate official, Johan J. Mulyadi, the victim is receiving treatment at Tawau General Hospital.
“Another crew member is in Semporna to assist in the investigation while four others have brought their boat to the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) in Lahad Datu,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.
Yesterday, four of 10 Indonesian crew members were reported to have been abducted by an armed group while heading home from the Philippines.
Six of the crew escaped when their boat entered Malaysian waters and security forces came to their aid.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said police would take statements from the rescued crew members.
On April 1, four Malaysian crew members were abducted by eight armed men off Ligitan Island near Semporna.
On March 26, a tugboat laden with coal from Borneo Island which was heading to the Philippines was believed to have been hijacked by an armed group while its 10 crew were abducted. ― Bernama
