KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today rejected Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s endorsement for the former to possibly replace Datuk Seri Najib Razak as prime minister.
“It’s not up to him to decide,” Ahmad Zahid, who is also home minister, told reporters today.
News portal Malaysiakini reported Muhyiddin as saying at a forum last night that he “does not mind” if Ahmad Zahid becomes the next prime minister, despite the former also being touted as a possible candidate.
Muhyiddin was dropped as deputy prime minister in a Cabinet reshuffle last year and replaced by Ahmad Zahid.
He was also suspended as Umno deputy president over his continued criticism of Putrajaya; Ahmad Zahid also replaced him here.
Muhyiddin is part of the Save Malaysia movement spearheaded by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to demand Najib’s resignation.
