KUALA LUMPUR, April 10 —The Malaysian Indian Progressive Association (Mipas) today urged Putrajaya to ban controversial Mumbai-born Muslim preacher Dr Zakir Naik from Malaysia to deliver a series of lectures as he is well-known for insulting other religions.

Mipas secretary-general S Barathidasan said that Dr Naik had no right to criticise other religions and that a police report will be lodged against the preacher at the Sentul police station this afternoon.

“Zakir Naik or any Islamic preacher has no right to criticise and talk against other religions. He has done that during his last visit to Malaysia,” Barathidasan told Malay Mail Online.

“We want our government to ban him and (they) should stop his lectures slandering and criticising other religions,” he explained.

He added that Mipas will also inform the police to investigate Dr Naik for sedition.

On Friday, Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) demanded Putrajaya ban the preacher from entering Malaysia to start a series of lectures at Terengganu, calling Dr Naik a “virus” to the country's multi-cultural communities.

In 2012, Hindraf also raised similar concerns when Dr Naik scheduled a trip to Malaysia back then.

Dr Naik, who received the government’s Tokoh Maal Hijrah award in 2013, previously angered the Hindu community here by insulting their deities along with the vegetarian practices of the faith.

The Islamic Research Foundation president has also been denied entry to Canada and United Kingdom in 2012 after he reportedly expressed his support to terrorist group Al-Qaeda.
