KUALA LUMPUR, April 9 — Youth activist Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman urged Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin today to join the Save Malaysia movement that seeks the prime minister’s removal.

“To Umno leaders YB Khairy Jamaluddin, Azwanbro, I have always regarded you in a brilliant way. I have always respected you.

“I always thought in the future you are the ones that will save Umno,” Syed Saddiq said at the Save Malaysia’s youth gathering here, referring to Umno Youth deputy chief Khairul Azwan Harun by his nickname Azwanbro.

“But now, please, please join us in this movement. This is the time for you to come out and speak out,” he added.

Syed Saddiq asserted that he was not seeking to become enemies with Khairy and the Umno Youth deputy, but urged them to act.

“I still have my trust in you, but as each day passes by, it is eroding,” he said.

Syed Saddiq also told Malaysians not to be intimidated and urged them to sign the Citizens’ Declaration that the Save Malaysia movement had unveiled on March 4, urging for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s resignation.

“It’s not up to two months, already more than 200,000 Malaysians have joined this movement. It’s impossible for the government to oppress every individual who signed this declaration.

“This is a citizens’ declaration. This is our generation. Do not be scared,” he said.

He vowed not to give up until Malaysia is “saved”.

In today’s gathering by Save Malaysia’s newly-formed youth secretariat, speakers included PKR’s Penang exco member Dr Afif Bahardin, DAP MPs Steven Sim and Zairil Khir Johari, Lawyers for Liberty’s Melissa Sasidaran and several youth activists.

The Citizens’ Declaration calls for institutional reforms and Najib’s removal through peaceful and legal means.
