IPOH, April 8 — A police inspector was fined RM5,000 in default six months’ jail by the Sessions Court here today after he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of accepting a bribe of RM1,500, four years ago.

Amrin Paiman, 54, is currently suspended as traffic prosecution officer at the public order division, Ipoh district police headquarters.

The sentence was handed down by Judge S. Indra Nehru after Amrin pleaded guilty to receiving RM1,500 from Khor Kwong Yik on April 10 via a cash transfer into his CIMB account.

According to the charge sheet, Amrin received the cash in return for not taking action against Khor who caused the death of a motorcyclist in 2008 in an accident while driving.

Amrin. who had served with the Royal Malaysia Police for 31 years. was represented by lawyer Muhammad Fadhli while Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC)’s deputy public prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat prosecuted.

In the same court, Amrin was acquitted of two counts of soliciting and accepting bribes amounting to RM1,200 three years ago.

When charged at the Sessions Court on Tuesday, Amrin had pleaded not guilty to soliciting from Amir Hakim Amel Rosmadi @ Adek RM500 on Nov 13 and accepting a bribe of RM700 a day later.

Both incidents took place in two separate locations in Tambun.

Amrin was charged with soliciting and accepting the bribe as an inducement not to charge Amir Hakim for dangerous driving. — Bernama
