EINDHOVEN, July 26 — The last 38 coffins carrying the remains of the victims of the downed Malaysia Airlines (MAS) plane arrived at the Eindhoven Royal Dutch airbase here today from Kharkiv, Ukraine.
This brings to a total of 227 coffins delivered to the Dutch authorities, who are leading the international investigation team.
The coffins were flown in by the Dutch and Australian air force planes that landed at 3.45pm local time.
The families of those on board MH17 were also present at the airbase and they observed a moment of silence once both aircraft docked.
Later, each of the coffin was loaded into a hearse to be sent to the Dutch military base at Hilversum for forensic investigation and Disaster Victim Identification (DVI).
The Malaysian Special Investigation Team head Khairil Hilmi Mokhtar when contacted said with the last of the coffins airlifted, the operation for tagging and scanning the remains in Kharkiv has been closed.
Flight MH17 was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur when it went down in Donetsk, eastern Ukraine near the Russian border on July 17.
The Boeing 777-200 aircraft carrying 298 people — 283 passengers and 15 crew — was believed to have been shot down, but no one has yet to claim responsibility for the heinous act. — Bernama
