TOKYO, Jan 20 — Created in 1983 by Kikuo Ibe, Casio’s toughest cookie is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2018. Festivities continue with a new limited-edition collection of all-red models, one of the G-SHOCK brand’s signature shades, together with black. The limited edition “RED OUT” series lands February 2018 via regular G-SHOCK retailers.

Originally created by Kikuo Ibe — a Casio engineer in Tokyo intent on making a high-resistance timepiece after breaking a watch given to him by his father — the G-SHOCK brand is now celebrating its 35th anniversary. Over three and a half successful decades, the brand has outed a multitude of watches designed to resist shocks, mud, freezing temperatures and even magnetic fields. At the end of August, Casio’s G-SHOCK brand celebrated 100 million watches sold worldwide.

Now, the brand is celebrating 35 years of success with a limited-edition series of four watches finished entirely in red. “Featuring G-SHOCK’s iconic red brand colourway, the four-model series boasts a newly developed coating technology that incorporates particles into paint to provide a deep, lustreless matte-red finish,” explains a G-SHOCK news release.

The “DW5635C” has a square watch face; the “DW6935C” is based on the legendary “DW6900”; the DW5735C is based on the DW5700, an early G-SHOCK model best known for its round case and digital LCD display; and the “GA735C” has an oversized case and Super LED Light. In each model, a black caseback and strap loop contrast with the all-red finish.

Models in this anniversary collection have a caseback engraved with the G-SHOCK 35th-anniversary logo designed by artist Eric Haze, who has worked with the brand on several occasions. The strap loop also comes stamped with stars, nodding to the iconic watch’s 35-year history.
