MADRID, Nov 23 ― Michelin has admitted two new restaurants from Spain into their prestigious three-star club, with the addition of ABaC in Barcelona and Aponiente in El Puerto de Santa Maria.

The new designation brings the total number of three-starred restaurants in Spain to 11.

Three stars in the Michelin guide denote a restaurant that serves exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey.

At ABaC, chef Jordi Cruz “captivates his customers with intelligently designed and very technical dishes,” inspectors say.

Meanwhile, at Aponiente, chef Angel Leon creates new flavours using extraordinary techniques and demonstrates his inventiveness and passion for sea products, editors add.

“With two new three-star restaurants, Spain shows what an important place the country has in the world's gastronomic landscape,” said Michelin's international director Michael Ellis in a statement.

ABaC and Aponiente join the ranks of Akelaŕe, Arzak, Azurmendi, DiverXO, El Celler de Can Roca, Lasarte, Martín Berasategui, Quique Dacosta and Sant Pau in the three-starred club.

The 2018 Michelin guide for Spain and Portugal also features 20 new two-starred restaurants: 15 in Spain, 5 in Portugal.

Of the 177 restaurants to unlock a single star, 17 addresses in Spain are new this year, and 2 restaurants in Portugal are new. ― AFP-Relaxnews
