KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 ― Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) launched its refreshed 2017 model Triton today ― the new range boasts of several enhancements that put it right up there at the top of the heap with its competitors.

Perhaps the most significant feature is not in the specifications, but in the warranty ― the new Triton comes with 200,000 kilometres or five-years warranty (whichever comes first). The 200,000 km distance is a practical distance that ensures, except in extreme cases of high usage, that the owner actually gets the five years warranty in full ― this is a great strategic move by Mitsubishi in order to get more buy-in from would-be customers whilst also being an indication of its confidence in the durability of its products. Interestingly, this new extended warranty is only for the 2.4 litre (new engine with MIVEC variants.

In terms of safety, the new Triton scores the maximum rating of five stars in the Asean NCAP crash test (applicable only to Adventure variants with the availability of 7 SRS airbags).

The top two Adventure Variants get 8-way powered control for the driver’s seat, leather seats, Dual –zone climatic control air-conditioning, touch screen CD/MP3/USB/BT audio with Bluetooth and voice control.

The entire 2.4 litre engined variants (with VGT and MIVEC ) get , in addition to ABS and EBD which is standard across the board, Brake Assist (BA), Active Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and Trailer Sway Control.

In addition, the VGT variants come standard with Bi-Xenon HID headlamps, which promise excellent illumination, especially at night.

The 2.4 litre Mivec turbo diesel engine produces 181 PS of power while delivering 430 Nm of torque ― plenty of power to go around, whatever your need. With new tuning for the fuel system, the Triton offers a claimed 15 per cent improvement over its predecessor, while VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo) provides optimal power at all engine and load conditions ― in short, it cuts down what we commonly term as ‘turbo lag’.

The chassis remains the same, but it is a proven chassis that has been around for quite a while. The suspension system remains the same, with Macpherson struts and coil springs at the front, and leaf springs at the rear.
