MAY 12 ― I am ecstatic over what we have achieved but yet personally it was bittersweet for me trying to absorb the lectures and presentations and networking to advance reproductive health and rights in Malaysia but yet sad that I am so far away, unable to celebrate and savour this historic moments with all Malaysians.
I am so proud to stand alongside all Malaysians who simply want a fairer, more equal and just Malaysia where everyone is given a chance to excel in the best they can be and live a more rewarding life.
I stand in awe and humbled by the resilience and determination of so many who kept their faith, never wavered in their principles and continued fighting for the good of all.
For once, I am so proud of so many notable personalities and politicians, the list would be endless who had shown exemplary leadership and inner strength to resist all the temptations of personal agendas and gains for the good of all. Many had to lose so much in doing so, their health, their families, their wealth, their liberty and even their sanity at times.
We are today a new Malaysia because we are standing on the shoulders of all these giants, their names and legacies will no doubt be one of the proudest historic chapter in Malaysian histories. We owe them so much and many future generations can never repay them fully for their sacrifices.
This goes to all Malaysians too who had contributed in so many ways to this historic event but yet they are nameless and faceless, their only reward are the satisfaction in the knowledge that they are part of this momentous chapter.
On a practical note, I am sure good things will come to all Malaysians step by step as the pillars of our deeply ravaged nation are rebuild and generations to come will see a Vibrant, economically progressive, fairer, more equal and just Malaysia.
We must however take note that despite the so many talents and dedicated leaders we had voted in, we did not vote a perfect and faultless team. There will be mistakes, mis-steps, crisis and the likes as a brave new Malaysia is born and we need to support and keep the faith that these are good leaders who will steer us in the right path.
We need also to give them space and time for the structure and governance to mature and perhaps to resist the temptation of demanding, lobbying and cajoling for personal agendas in the spirit of building a better Malaysia together.
We must also resist the temptation of self entitlements just because we are part of this change as we are not fighting for ourselves but for the future generations to come.
Above all, we must learn to forgive as without forgiveness and reconciliation, this historic event would have never had taken place and kleptocracy, corruption, discrimination would still be the rule of the day as we slide even further into the abyss.
Together we shall work towards a brighter future for all and keep the faith my dear brothers and sisters for we are of one race and one destiny and Malaysia will always be the place I call home!
