NEW YORK, Aug 19 — Sony might have sold off its non-profitable VAIO brand, but it looks like it is returning sooner than expected. First off the assembly line is the VAIO Canvaz Z, a huge tablet that will come with a keyboard, i7 processor, 256GB SSD and supports up to 16GB of onboard memory.
The device will be priced at US$2,199 and will go on sale at Microsoft stores as well as the VAIO US website.
VAIO intends to go beyond PCs, with its eye on making robots as well as wearables. The company believs that it could record a profit by the end of the year, with an initial public offering and perhaps being sold to another company.
Big dreams, but will the devices deliver? We’ll have to see if a VAIO divorced from Sony can find its mojo.
