LOS ANGELES, Oct 11 — The world's largest PC maker has teamed up with the actor and noted tech investor and the result is a tablet that's as focused on entertainment as it is on productivity.
Ashton Kutcher has been employed by Lenovo as a product engineer since last year and their latest collaboration, the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is quite intriguing.
“Our vision for the YOGA Tablet 2 Pro was to create the best tablet on the market,” said Kutcher at the tablet's unveiling. “To do that, we really looked at how people use tablets and what they needed for a better experience.”
According to Lenovo's research, what people want is a device that takes media consumption to another level. So it has a 13-inch QHD display (so right between HD and UHD in terms of resolution) and an integrated projector so that if there's enough wall space available a movie clip, TV show or even a presentation can be scaled up to 50-inches.
But as well as a big image, the tablet has a big sound. Lenovo can't claim to be the first company to integrate a projector into a tablet but it can lay claim to being the first to integrate a proper 8-watt sound system, complete with a subwoofer into a slate.
“The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro is the culmination of the most extensive research and feedback we've ever undertaken, and Ashton has been with us every step of the way, bringing new ideas to the table, challenging us and always advocating for users,” said Jeff Meredith, vice-president, Mobile Business Group, Lenovo.
“As a result, we've preserved the best features of the original YOGA Tablet — the modes and the long battery life — and now we've raised the bar completely with technologies like the projector that keep changing the way we think of tablets.”
This “challenging” might also explain why the Yoga is also potentially the first Android tablet to come with an integrated “hook” so that it can be hung on the wall. This new “hang” mode, as the company calls it, is in addition to the other ways of setting up the Yoga via its integrated stand.
When using the projector, the tablet is good for three hours, but turn that off and work just with the screen and it should be good for up to 15 hours. If that figure is correct it would also make the Yoga one of if not the best tablet currently available in terms of battery life.
“The YOGA Tablet 2 Pro has got the best sound, a dramatically brilliant camera and display, a new mode, a projector and top processor, so I think we created the best tablet available. I can't wait for people to try it,” said Kutcher.
And people won't have to wait long as the tablet will be going on sale at the end of October for US$499 (RM1,625) in the US and €499 (RM2,050) in Europe. — AFP-Relaxnews
