KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Pahang beat FA Cup holders Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), 3-1 in a quarter-final first leg match at Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan tonight.
Pahang opened scoring via Ahmad Syamim Yahya (13 min) only for JDT to equalise via Marcos Antonio Elias Santos (21 min) before more than 35,000 football fans.
In the second half, Pahang scored two more goals via Matheus Alves Leandro (48 min) and Chinedu Bright Ezendu Dike (66 min).
Pahang will play JDT in the quarter-final second leg at Tan Sri Hassan Yunus Stadium in Johor Bahru on April 23.
Meanwhile, three times FA Cup champions, Kedah thrashed Perak State Development Corporation (PKNP FC), 6-1 in another quarter-final match at Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar tonight.
Kedah opened scoring through Mohd Fitri Omar in the 15th minute before PKNP's player G.Mugenthirran scored an own goal in 29th minute.
The Danish import Ken Ilso Larsen performed outstandingly when he scored two goals in the 47th and 90th minutes for the host.
Also contributing to the goals for the Red Eagle were Serbian import, Liridon Krasniqi (45th minute) and Muhammad Syafiq Ahmad (86th minute), while the solitary goal for PKNP FC was provided by Mohamad Khairul Asyraf Ramli in the 85th minute.
Earlier, the match had to be suspended for 20 minutes when one of the flood lights suddenly went off in the 59th minute of the game.
Meanwhile at the Stadium Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah, Kuala Terengganu, twice champion Terengganu failed to capitalise on the home ground advantage when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sarawak.
The Turtle squad began well with the first goal scored in the 20th minute by Argentinian import, Federico Matias Faicone but Sarawak equalised in the 53rd minute through South Korean import, Jong Ho Lee.
Elsewhere, Sabah were beaten 0-1 by twice champion Negeri Sembilan at the Stadium Likas, Kota Kinabalu when Marko Simic, the Negri Sermbilan import from Montenegro, Marko Simic found the Sabah net in the 26th minute.
The second leg matches between PKNP FC and Kedah at the Stadium Perak, Ipoh; Sarawak against Terengganu at Stadium Negeri Kuching; and Negeri Sembilan against Sabah at the Stadium Tunku Abdul Rahman, Paroi will be played on April 21. — Reuters
