KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — National elite archer Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh continued her fine form by picking up her second gold medal on the final day of the First National Circuit Archery Championship/Wira Open at the National Sports Council (NSC) Complex in Keramat here, today.
In the women’s individual compound final, Fatin, 25, representing the Ministry of Higher Education Sports Centre of Excellence (MOHE SCE) faced stiff competition from CX-Kings club archer Lau Jiun Shen, before winning 140-139.
The triple gold medallist in the 2015 Singapore SEA Games won her first gold medal of the championship in the mixed team compound event with Amirul Amin Abd Rahim, yesterday.
In the meantime, another national elite archer Mohd Juwaidi Mazuki who is also under the ‘Kita Juara’ programme, won the gold in the men’s individual compound event through a 146-143 victory over fellow teammate Muhammad Ghazali Alang Arif Aqil.
The ‘Kita Juara’ programme is a special initiative by the NSC to train athletes to achieve outstanding success in the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur. National junior archer Nur Fatin Adibah Mohd Zambri dominated the women’s individual recurve event with a comfortable 6-0 win over Terengganu’s Nur Aqilah Yusof.
Former national archer Cheng Chu Sian who represented the Malaysian Armed Forces clinched the men’s individual recurve event in style after a 6-0 victory over Selangor archer Muhammad Ikram Zaidi.
Meanwhile, the MOHE SCE team comprising national archers Atiq Bazil Bakri, Muhammad Fareez Rosli and Nazir Omar won the men’s recurve team event after beating the ‘Kita Juara’ programme trio Ahmad Afiq Akhiroman/Muhammad Norhairunizam Rosdi/Muhammad Shaifuddin Kamro 5-1.
Meanwhile, Selangor trio Aishah Najihah Mohd Azizul/Nur Adlina Marini Amir Suharman/Nur Syahirah Mohd Zaimi won the gold medal in the women’s recurve team event, stunning national junior B comprising Mimi Raihan Yazid/Supang Yahya/Syaqiera Mashyaikh 6-2.
A total of 341 archers from across the country participated in the four-day tournament which began on Thursday. — Bernama
