KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 18 — National singles player Iskandar Zulkarnain Zainuddin sprang a surprise by beating 24th ranked player in the world at the China Open Super Premier Series to qualify for the semi-finals today.

According to bwf.tournamentsoftware.com website, the 25-year-old player took less then one hour to subdue host player Qiao Bin 21-19, 21-7.

Iskandar is scheduled to meet sixth ranked Jan O Jorgensen of Denmark who defeated Tian Houwei of China, 14-21, 21-16, 21-14.

This is the first time Iskandar, who is the 34th ranked player, made it through to the quarter-finals of a Super Series after competing in seven championships this season. — Bernama
