KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 26 — Hafizh Syahrin atoned for his crash at the Malaysian Grand Prix last year with an eighth place finish in Moto2 yesterday.
The 21-year-old was in the top 10 heading into the final eight laps of the race last year before he crashed and was forced to retire.
“I did not want to repeat my mistakes last year and was happy with position. My focus was completely on staying in the top 10 and I also want to thank my team for the immaculate bike setting,” said the Petronas Raceline rider, who clocked 41:4.457s.
Hafizh, who finished fifth at the Japanese Grand Prix earlier this month, was disappointed to not finish in the same position again.
“I wanted to accomplish my top five target, but it was difficult as there were a few riders blocking me, so I had to maintain my position. It was a good outing and I am looking forward to the final race in Valencia,” said Hafizh, who targets another top 10 finish in the final race of the season.
Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman finished 16th (41:19.384s) while wildcard Ramdan Rosli ended 24th (41:56.306s).
The Moto2 was won by Ajo Motorsport’s Johan Zarco, who clocked 40:37.772s.
In Moto3, Zulfahmi Khairuddin’s challenge ended in the third lap when he crashed out.
The race was won by Red Bull’s Miguel Olivera.
