PETALING JAYA, Aug 8 — Playing at the World Championships in Jakarta is a luxury for Tee Jing Yi, who is back fit after battling a series of setbacks this year.

The 24-year-old endured a nightmare start to the year when she retired with a hip injury at the Malaysian GP Gold in January.

It also forced her out of All England and the Swiss Open in March.

“I’m fit going into the tournament,” said Tee, who won the Perak Open last week by beating youngster Goh Jin Wei 21-16, 21-11.

“It felt wonderful to end my title drought after a long time. I hope to ride on that confidence in Jakarta.”

The stocky shuttler last won a title at the National Circuit in Alor Star in 2013.

She lost in the second round of the World Championships last year to eventual champion Carolina Marin and could again face the Spaniard in the same stage.

Tee wants to change the outcome this time, but admits she is up against a superior opponent.

“Marin has improved over the last year and I need to be at my best to beat her,” said Tee, who opens her campaign against Italy’s Jeanine Cicognini.

“I’ll take the game when it comes. There’s a first round tie get past.”
