KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 — DC Studios’ new head honcho James Gunn has revealed the qualities he’s looking for in his upcoming DC reboot movie, Superman: Legacy.
Gunn, who was confirmed to direct the reboot of the iconic DC superhero back in March, said although they haven’t found their new Man of Steel, he has shared some details on what they’re looking for.
The Suicide Squad director also told Variety at the red carpet session for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 that they had also found some candidates to play the character.
“It’s hard, but we’re looking, and we actually have some really great choices, which I'm excited about.
“It has to be somebody who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he’s also an alien. It’s got to be somebody who has the kindness and compassion that Superman has.
“And it has to be somebody that you’d want to give a hug,” he said.
Gunn also pointed out that actor Chris Pratt won’t be playing Superman while adding that ‘maybe, if he’s a few years younger’.

According to the official synopsis by Warner Bros. Discovery, Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent.
He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.
It was previously revealed by Gunn that the new Superman feature film will also focus on Superman’s earlier days. Which is one of the reasons they had to let go actor Henry Cavill from returning to the cape.
According to comicbook.com, Superman: Legacy is slated to be released on July 11, 2025.
The film is currently at its pre-production stage with costume and production designs up and running.
