KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — New Zealand pop sensation Lorde has been announced as headline act for this year’s Good Vibes Festival (GVF) in Genting Highlands.

The Royals singer will appear alongside a host of other international rock and alternative artists such as alt-J, The Neighbourhood, Nick Murphy (formerly known as Chet Faker) and ODESZA. Altimet, Noh Salleh and Kyoto Protocol have been named on the local bill.

Good Vibes Festival is entering its fifth year with a line-up that continues to champion overseas chart-toppers and a selection of cutting-edge homegrown talent.

The spotlight of two-day music festival at The Ranch in Gohtong Jaya will be firmly fixed on Lorde.

The singer-songwriter’s hit list includes Team and Green Light, the latter taken from Melodrama released last year, which also earned a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

Lorde is celebrated for a sound that draws from darker wells of art pop.

She is self-assured to the point of publicly revealing her birth certificate in 2014 following breakthrough success with single Royals and debut album Pure Heroine, such was the world’s astonishment in the then-teenager’s swelling confidence.

It is Lorde’s first appearance in Malaysia and will go some way to explaining the thousands of fans who are expected to make their way up Genting Highlands on July 21 and 22.

A record 13,000 attended last year’s GVF.

Alternative prog-rock trio alt-J also sparked excitement.

The English arena-fillers are long-time favourites in the indie music realm, best known for tracks like Breezeblocks and Left Hand Free.

American five-piece The Neighbourhood, with songs like Sweater Weather, add a dose of R&B-infused rock to the international slate so too Australian beatmaker Chet Faker, who brings chilled hip-hop in the form of viral hit No Diggity from 2011.

On the local side, there’s just as much reason to get excited with Amboi rapper Altimet & The Kawan Band in addition to Noh Salleh, award-winning solo artiste and frontman of indie stalwarts Hujan, set to perform.

Currently in the process of recording a new album, rock ‘n’ roll quintet Kyoto Protocol will play along with electronic duo Pastel Lite, signed under Yuna Room Recordings, as well as rapper fast making her way up the local hip-hop scene Zamaer.

General ticket sales start on April 21st at 11am.
