KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 6 — If you fancy watching your favourite local actors surfing in the big wide oceans and conquering waves, then ‘Surf this Love: Gelora Juara (STL)’ is definitely worth checking out as this new movie is set against the stunning Tioman Island beaches as the backdrop.
Aimed at giving something new to local movie goers, the movie also has a mission – to popularise water sports, particularly surfing, in Malaysia.
Its director, Wan Mohd Hafiz Wan Hussain said filming STL, a romantic comedy featuring big names such as Pekin Ibrahim, Cristina Suzanne and Shukri Yahya, was a very challenging effort as it had to be filmed both on land and in water (oceans).
“The most challenging part was filming the surfing scenes because it could only be done when the waves were strong enough to ensure the surfers do well and look good.
“The weak waves in Pulau Tioman prompted the production team to fly to Bali, Indonesia due to strong waves over there,” he said when he appeared as a guest in the NINE11 programme produced by the Bernama News Channel today.
He said STL depicts the story of a group of surfers and their idyllic life in Tioman Island before a woman blogger from the city turns their life upside down, with problems cropping up everywhere and changing everything.
STL opens in cinemas nationwide on Feb 22. — Bernama
