KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 — Munafik fans, the news you have been waiting for has finally been confirmed by director Syamsul Yusof.
The sequel to 2016’s massive horror hit begins filming on March 20, with a targeted 2018 release date.
In an interview with Star2.com, Syamsul also shared a few plot details.
Munafik 2 will see Ustaz Adam, as played by Syamsul, go head to head with a man and his misguided religious teachings.
Award-winning actress Maya Karin will take the role of Sakinah, a poor single mother living in an isolated village who is affected by an evil spirit linked to the man.
Nasir Bilal Khan, Fauzi Nawawi and Mawi will also star in Munafik 2, although Syamsul did not divulge what roles they would play.
The first Munafik was 2016’s highest-grossing Malaysian movie. It earned RM19 million from box office collection in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei. It also won the Malaysia Film Festival award for Best Malaysian Film.
