“It feels unreal to have won,” Garrix says in a press release. “I 100 per cent did not expect it at all. I’ve had an amazing year, with awesome shows and amazing fans — I’m so thankful for their support. I didn’t even do a campaign, and it just shows how dope the fanbase is.”
Amazing is right. Garrix is now the proud owner of his own label STMPD RCRDS, he’s gearing up to drop his debut album, and he’s still dropping a song a day during his week in Amsterdam. He’s got two back-to-back sold-out arena shows at ADE, he has a huge hit on his hands with Bebe Rexha and In the Name of Love, and now, he’s the fan-voted numero uno.
Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike didn’t fall far: They slide in at No. 2, ahead of Hardwell (No. 3) and Armin Van Buuren (No. 4). Marshmello makes his list debut at No. 28, the highest new entry of the year.
In an interesting move, DJ Mag also introduced a first-ever “tech leaning” list, topped by Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and Umek. It’s kind of like DJ Mag’s underground response to its own show-busting main event. See who rounds out the top 10 big boy list below, and see the full 100 online.
