LOS ANGELES, Sept 3 — Netflix has released the trailer for ARQ, a sci-fi thriller that sees its protagonists reliving their day over and over again in a time loop, much like Groundhog Day but with a dark twist thrown in.
Very little is known about the Netflix original movie so far, other than the description in its trailer that reads: “In a dystopian future, an engineer trapped in a house and surrounded by a mysterious gang of masked intruders must protect a technology that could deliver unlimited energy and end the wars that have consumed the world.”
This genre of movie-making isn’t new, as a similar story-telling device has been seen in Hollywood sci-fi thriller 2011’s Source Code, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, as well as gritty sci-fi action film Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt.
Actor Robbie Amell, who previously played Firestorm in CW’s The Flash and Rachael Taylor, who plays Patricia “Trish” Walker in Jessica Jones, play lead roles in this movie.
ARQ is written and directed by Orphan Black writer Tony Elliot and is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 9.
The movie will be available on Netflix on September 16.
