LOS ANGELES, Nov 30 — It looks like R2-KT, a pink version of R2-D2 will indeed be appearing in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
“R2-KT” is a astromech droid that looks similar to R2-D2, except it’s pink. The robot was created by “Star Wars” fan Albin Johnson to honour his daughter Katie who was dying of brain cancer.
Johnson is the founder of the 501st Legion, a Star Wars fan club that does charity work in-costume. He has kept his daughter’s memory alive by using the pretty pink droid as a beacon of hope and he has brought R2-KT to countless charity events to visit children in hospitals and to Star Wars events all across the country.
Albin Johnson tweeted on Saturday that the pink droid will appear in the new “Star Wars” movie making it part of the story canon.
“It’s official, R2-KT is in The Force Awakens. We just received permission to share the news. #R2KTinStarWars @ArtooKatee #StarWars.”
It is not known what role the droid will have in the movie, or whether it will have any interaction with R2-D2, who is seen briefly in the film’s trailers.
