LOS ANGELES, Nov 17 — A new trailer has been released for the star-studded TV special “The Wiz Live!”, a three-hour musical production starring Common, Queen Latifah and Mary J. Blige based on “The Wizard of Oz”.
The NBC special is a reboot of the 1978 film “The Wiz”, which starred Diana Ross as Dorothy and Michael Jackson as the Scarecrow, and told the classic story through the African-American experience.
In the 2015 version, Dorothy will be played by newcomer Shanice Williams.
Queen Latifah plays the Wiz, Blige the Wicked Witch of the West, and Common plays the Bouncer.
Performance troupe Cirque du Soleil also makes an appearance.
“The Wiz Live!” airs December 3 on NBC at 8pm EST.
