LOS ANGELES, June 25 — He’s the bad mouthed teddy bear with no morals. And he’s back and this time he’s married and wants to be a dad.
The stars of “Ted 2“ hit the red carpet in New York yesterday to celebrate the film’s world premiere. The first instalment was a surprise hit in 2012 and took over US$550 million (RM2 billion) worldwide.
‘It’s the kind of thing where there is no good way to pitch this movie. A guy with a talking teddy bear, his teddy bear comes to life. I didn’t like the idea when I first heard it. It wasn’t until I reluctantly read the script, then met with Seth, and then saw the test with the bear that I knew it would be something special. Obviously, you couldn’t predict the kind of success that it had, you know, there is no way you can anticipate that sort of thing, but it felt like there was a lot of potential there.”
“Family Guy“ creator Seth MacFarlane, directed, co-wrote and co-produced both films and also provides the bear’s voice. He says the film deals with acceptance and discrimination issues.
“I think it’s both current and timeless. It’s recurring problem and the whole point of this movie is, even though it’s a talking teddy bear that nasty part of people’s brains will probably still kick into effect and we have to do something about it.”
Actress Jessica Barth plays Ted’s love interest and shared her secret of working with the stuffed animal.
“I know, but I couldn’t think of him as a bear because in my work I had to think of him as the love of my life. So, in my preparation I prepared the same as I would if he was a real actor in front of me.”
The talking Ted looks set to tickle audiences once more in a film that’s stuffed full of laughs. — Reuters
