KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 —The FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose in late trading today for a 2.37-point, or 0.13 per cent gain, mainly due to interests in selected heavyweights led by IOI Corp.

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI ended at an intra-day high of 1,770.53 points against Wednesday’s close of 1,768.18.

The index moved between 1,765.75 and 1,770.53 throughout the day.

IOI Corp shares rose by 15 sen to RM4.61.

Dealers said the improved sentiment on Bursa Malaysia was also lifted by the favourable external news such as improved oil prices which rose by 71 US cents to US$48.50 per barrel.

The market breadth, however, was negative as losers led gainers by 511 to 359, with 373 counters unchanged, 548 untraded while 31 others suspended.

Turnover rose to 1.55 billion shares worth RM1.74 billion from 1.48 billion shares worth RM1.69 billion yesterday.

Among heavyweights, TNB and Sime Darby rose two sen each to RM14.14 and RM9.53, respectively, CIMB added nine sen to RM6.60 and Petronas Chemicals improved four sen to RM7.15.

Maybank declined one sen to RM9.65 and Public Bank eased two sen to RM20.32.

Of the actives, Netx and Borneo Oil were flat at five sen and 11.5 sen respectively while MRCB bagged six sen to RM1.49 and Anzo increased half-a-sen to 13 sen.

Frontken eased one sen to 33.5 sen.

The FBM Emas Index rose 5.46 points to 12,631.75, FBMT 100 Index gained 7.02 points to 12,267.15, and FBM Emas Shariah Index perked 11.77 points to 12,852.33.

FBM Ace eased 18.38 points to 6,545.97 and the FBM 70 declined 26.78 points to 15,055.92.

On a sectoral basis, the Plantation Index improved 60.98 points to 7,966.75 while Finance Index slipped 21.53 points to 16,841.63 and the Industrial Index gave up 1.47 points to 3,260.69.

The Main Market turnover improved to 1.05 billion shares worth RM1.63 billion from 962.97 million shares worth RM1.56 billion on Wednesday.

Warrants increased to 170.91 million units valued at RM22.06 million from 121.38 million units valued at RM22.58 million.

Volume on the ACE Market fell to 299.71 million shares worth RM802.76 million from 394.02 million shares worth RM99.27 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 57.49 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (266.91 million), construction (88.08 million), trade and services (348.73 million), technology (33.25 million), infrastructure (12.48 million), SPAC (1.35 million), finance (63.15 million), hotels (498,300), properties (160.75 million), plantations (13.53 million), mining (276,600), REITs (5.84 million) and closed/fund (8,000). — Bernama
