GEORGE TOWN, Feb 21 — Leading software development and IT solutions company, Luxoft Malaysia opened its first centre of excellence in Penang today.
The office at the Wawasan Open University campus here is part of Luxoft’s RM235 million investment for first five years as it expands into the Asia Pacific region.
“We aim to employ and train up 500 IT and software development engineers in the next few years,” Luxoft president and chief executive officer CEO Dmitriy Loschinin said at the launch.
Also launched today was Luxoft’s “Automotive Software University” in Penang. The three-month programme that uses the company's automotive knowledge seeks to train locals and develop engineers in the automotive sector.
Loschinin said the company has 39 offices in 19 countries but chose to expand its footprint here as it sees promising opportunities in the Asia Pacific region.
“Our initial focus in Penang is in the automotive and finance solutions and the internet of things,” he said.
The company’s other Asia Pacific offices are in Singapore, Sydney, Australia and Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
One of the first projects it will be working on is an infotainment system with Clarion (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd for the automotive industry.
“Having Luxoft here is a good opportunity for our local engineers to learn and train under one of the best automotive software companies in the world, it is an opportunity that is hard to come by here,” said Clarion's managing director Tan Teong Khin.
He said the future is in software development and with Luxoft's training, it will lead to the creation of more top-notch engineers in the automotive domain.
Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said the opening of Luxoft's COE will add value to a Penang in terms of talent creation and high income jobs.
