KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 ― Bursa Malaysia was lower at mid-morning today on profit-taking in heavyweights, dealers said.

At 11.05am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) stood at 1,653.39, down 10.43 points against yesterday's close of 1,663.82.

A dealer said the weaker local bourse was in line with the Asian stock markets which were currently in volatile mode as the investors were awaiting the US presidential poll results which were expected to be out soon.

“Regional peers are confident of Hillary Clinton becoming the new president of the US as her policies are viewed as more predictable than her Republican rival, Donald Trump.

“However, the vote currently showed that Trump is leading Clinton,” he said.   

The FBM Emas Index fell 94.01 points to 11,604.73, FBMT100 Index eased 88.33 points to 11,320.77 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index slid 94.16 points to 12,188.47.

The FBM 70 decreased 165.72 points to 13,382.36 and the FBM Ace shed 79.50 points to 4,878.45.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index eased 17.22 points to 3,138.77, Finance Index declined 99.25 points to 14,355.65 and the Plantation Index fell 24.33 points to 7,784.13.

On the broader market, market breadth was negative with losers outpacing gainers 647 to 98, while 228 counters were unchanged, 699 untraded and 24 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 716.85 million shares worth RM426.22 million.      

Of the heavyweights, Maybank fell 10 sen to RM7.85, Tenaga Nasional and Public Bank were flat at RM14.32 and RM19.80, respectively, Petronas Chemicals declined one sen to RM6.94 and IHH Healthcare rose one sen to RM6.38.

Among actives, RGB International declined 1.5 sen to 23 sen, Vicocom was flat at 16.5 sen, Hibiscus fell one sen to 29 sen and Nexgram added half-a-sen to 4.5 sen. ― Bernama
