KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Bursa Malaysia extended its losing streak to open lower this morning prompted by the bearish sentiment in regional equity markets, dealers said.

At 9.12 am, the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) was 6.06 points lower at 1,674.24, against yesterday's close of 1,682.06.

It opened 4.89 points weaker at 1,675.41.

A dealer said most regional market sentiment was tepid following the overnight drop on Wall Street as markets await US Federal Reserve' Chair Janet Yellen's latest message on monetary policy direction.

The FBM Emas Index eased 31.33 points to 11,744.27, the FBMT 100 Index declined 33.04 points to 11,456.45 and the FBM Emas Syariah Index fell 56.669 points to 12,358.44.

The FBM 70 lost 8.36 points to 13,516.47 but the FBM Ace was 29.3 points higher at 5,334.08.

Sector-wise, the Finance Index eased 10.96 points to 14,404.49, the Plantation Index declined 27.17 points to 7,768.58 and the Industrial Index erased 17.15 points to 3,135.84.

Gainers edged losers 134 to 132, while 164 counters were unchanged, 1,274 untraded and 57 others were suspended.

Turnover stood at 121.2 million shares worth RM57.01 million.

Among heavyweights, TNB added two sen to RM14.76 and Maybank gained four sen to RM7.94.

Public Bank lost four sen to RM19.70 and Petronas Chemicals shed nine sen to RM6.61 while IHH was flat at RM6.65.

Of actives, AirAsia X and Opensys added ten sen each to 40.5 sen and 34.5 sen, respectively, Censof gained 2.5 sen to 24 sen and AirAsia earned six sen to RM2.92 but CME Group slipped half-a-sen to 5.5 sen. — Bernama
