KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22 — Bursa Malaysia opened on a firm note today on bargain hunting after yesterday’s losses.
The gains were, however, short-lived as the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) eased by 1.67 points to 1,637.8 at 9.21am, after opening 1.11 points better at 1,640.58.
Gainers outpaced losers by 178 to 107 while 155 counters were unchanged, 1,385 untraded and 12 others were suspended.
Turnover stood at 213.97 million shares worth RM108.77 million.
On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index eased 2.76 points to 11,299.43, FBMT100 Index fell 4.52 points to 11,017.3 and the FBM Emas Shariah Index was 8.85 points lower at 11,931.95.
The FBM 70 rose 19.53 points to 12,313.07 and the FBM Ace was up by 37.71 points to 5,480.81.
On a sectoral basis, the Plantation Index fell 22.71 points to 6,981.91 and the Finance Index declined 21.76 points to 14,231.73.
The Industrial Index added 12.08 points to 3,091.79.
In the early session, the index was lifted by gains in Petronas-linked stocks. Petronas Dagangan rose 30 sen to RM22 and MISC 20 sen was better to RM8.51.
Among the top losers were Kuala Lumpur Kepong (-24 sen to RM21.96), British American Tobacco (-16 sen to RM61.34) and Keck Seng (-13 sen to RM4.80).
Of the heavyweights, Public Bank eased four sen to RM18.36, Tenaga lost six sen to RM12.12 and Axiata declined three sen to RM6.11.
Maybank gained four sen to RM8.45.
Among the actives, iDimension added half-a-sen to 13 sen, AirAsia rose a sen to RM1.39 and Aemulus moved up 1.5 sen to 51 sen. — Bernama
