KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 25 — Bursa Malaysia ended mixed today, reflecting traders’ indecision over the mixed economic data, with the benchmark FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) 3.03 points higher.
The benchmark index closed at its intra-day high at 1,843.11, after opening at its lowest of 1,835.64 points today.
Market breadth was negative with losers edging gainers by 435 to 419 while 309 counters remained unchanged, 468 untraded and 22 others were suspended.
Total volume decreased to 2.39 billion shares worth RM1.84 billion from 2.68 billion shares recorded yesterday.
A dealer said there were signs of global economic recovery, as proven bybetter-than-expected HSBC China Puchasing Managers’ Index for September’s reading, which rose to 50.5.
“However, geopolitical risk, which had been simmering in the background, is now back to the front,” a dealer said.
Of the heavyweights, CIMB rose 12 sen to RM7.10, Maybank added four sen to RM9.88 and Axiata increased two sen to RM6.99.
Tenaga Nasional declined two sen to RM12.26.
Among active counters, Sumatec Resources declined a sen to 43 sen and PDZ Holdings fell two sen to 30.5 sen.
On the scoreboard, the Industrial Index rose 2.35 points to 3,201.62, FBM Emas Shariah Index was up 36.2 points to 13,187.48 and the Plantation Index edged up 53.98 points to 8,414.52.
The Finance Index fell 15.72 points to 17,243.66.
The FBM Emas Index was 32.18 points better at 12,917.38, FBMT100 Index edged up 32.42 points to 12,495.07 and the FBM 70 surged 82.27 points to 14,332.43.
The FBM Ace slipped 10.91 points to 7,338.15.
Main Market volume contracted to 2.39 billion units worth RM1.84 billion from 2.68 billion units worth yesterday.
Turnover on the ACE Market rose to 605.53 million shares worth RM112.63 million from 587.99 million shares worth RM132.39 million previously.
Warrants expanded to 33.33 million units worth RM5.42 million from 30.14 million units worth RM4.81 million yesterday.
Consumer products accounted for 174.92 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (263.04 million), construction (73.28 million), trade and services (966.64 million), technology (55.95 million), infrastructure (12.74 million), SPAC (23.89 million), finance (31.46 million), hotels (400,000), properties (114.61 million), plantations (25.74 million), mining (1.14 million), REITs (9.88 million), and closed/fund (4,000). — Bernama
