KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 22 — UMW Holdings Bhd’s unit, UMW Engineering Services Ltd, Myanmar, has successfully secured contracts worth RM200 million to supply more than 60 units of Komatsu equipment in Myanmar.
In a statement today the group said the contracts were from its three major customers in the country involved in jade mining industry, and the delivery was expected to commence from October this year.
UMW said the suspension of jade mining activities in Myanmar since May 2012 due to security reasons, would be lifted effective Sept 1, 2014 as announced by the nation’s government recently.
“The resumption of jade mining activities offer growth potential and the group is confident of securing more orders for Komatsu equipment in Myanmar,” it said.
UMW Group was awarded the heavy equipment distributorship in 1965 and has exclusive franchise in Malaysia, Singapore, Myanmar and Papua New Guinea.
It has established a market presence in Myanmar in 1999 and currently has four branches there. — Bernama
