KAPIT, May 18 — A man was injured on the right shoulder, ear and hand after he was shot by his worker using a homemade shotgun in Simpang 4, Jalan Sungai Sibau at about 1.30am today.

The 33-year-old victim who was shot from the back, drove himself to Kapit Hospital in great pain for treatment and was reported to be in stable condition.

Kapit police chief DSP Freddy Bian who confirmed the incident told Bernama, the victim was shot about 8m away.

He said earlier the suspect, 34, had stopped his employer at the location and asked him to settle the suspect’s problem with his girlfriend.    

“The victim did not want to help as it was the suspect’s personal problem and decided to drive away. Angered, the suspect fired one shot at the back of the victim’s car,” he said. 

According to DSP Freddy, a search operation for the suspect was mounted after being informed by Kapit Hospital of the incident at 2am.

The suspect who was found hiding in a friend’s house in Taman Exora, was apprehended one hour later.

“In the raid, police found a homemade shotgun (bakakok) and a bullet shell believed used by the suspect stashed under the sofa in the living room. The suspect was detained at Kapit police station for further investigations,” said Freddy who added the suspect had previous criminal records and had just been released from prison last year.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code on attempted murder and Section 8 of Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971 for possessing firearm for criminal activities. — Bernama
