PETALING JAYA, April 13 — An independent candidate contesting under Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has promised free membership at a gym that he runs should he win the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat.

Zainurizzaman Moharam, better known as Zack Rockstar after his gym in Subang, is not a member of PSM but has taken up the call for candidates interested to contest under the party’s banner.

“My heart and my activism are with PSM. What I have been doing all along is looking out for the people’s welfare and making sure their voices were heard.

“Seeing that PSM has offered me this opportunity to make use of their platform to contest the Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, I will do my best to serve the people and if win, I offer free gym membership at my fitness centre in Subang,” he said at a press conference today.

The Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat, formerly known as the Subang, is one of 17 federal and state assembly seats being contested by PSM.

The 38-year old also said he would push for more health-centric programmes and resolve the area’s pothole problems.

“But more importantly, the people here have made it clear to me that they want a representative who will work hard for them, be close to them and be accessible when they are in need.

“Even though I am the underdog in this fight and I may not be as politically experienced as my opponents, there is no doubt in my mind that I can deliver, that I have the qualities that the people of Sungai Buloh-Subang want,” he added.

“I know the people as I have lived here my whole life. I grew up in Subang, went to school in Subang, my children study in Subang, I was diagnosed with liver cancer in Subang and I recovered in Subang.”

Zainurizzaman, whose social work includes visits to the sick, contributing to the building of tahfiz schools and feeding the homeless, said he was looking forward to meeting more people in the run-up to the elections.

“I am ready, whether it is at the coffee shops, night markets or elsewhere. I want to tell people what we are about and hopefully, pull some supporters from the BN and PH giants to vote for us.”

Also present were PSM chairman Mohd Nasir Hashim and PSM secretary-general A. Sivarajan who handed over a flag with the party’s logo to Zainurizzaman in a symbolic gesture.

“In line with our party congress in 2017, we have opened our doors to other independent candidates who are aligned to our ideology and accepts our manifesto.

“We have a total of three such candidates including Zainurizzaman, with the other two being former Refomasi activist, Abdul Razak Ismail, who will contest in Kota Kemuning, and former DAP assemblyman, Teh Yee Cheu,” he said.

Sivarajan himself will be contesting the Kota Damansara state assembly seat and said he would work closely with Zainurizzaman in a unified strategy to capture the seats.

“More will be revealed on April 19 when we announce our full line-up of candidates and seats that we will be contesting.”
