KUALA LUMPUR, April 7 — A modern and efficient public transportation system continues to be Barisan Nasional’s (BN) agenda in providing modern and efficient services to the public.
BN, through its 14th General Election Manifesto, unveiled by the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak today, among others will introduce a National Transformation 2050 (TN50) public transport pass costing between RM50 to RM150 that gives unlimited monthly access for students, working youths, senior citizens and disabled persons (OKU).
Themed ‘Bersama BN Hebatkan Negara’ (With BN for A Greater Malaysia), the manifesto also promises to create new economic zones in border regions by developing road connectivity areas.
The following are other initiatives included in the BN manifesto on transformation of public transportation in the country:
Enhancing the quality of feeder-bus services through the introduction of price modalities and buses of a more suitable size.
Establishing new economic zones in border regions by developing Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (ClQ) Complexes and areas of road connectivity.
Building the Mukah and Lawas airports with an allocation of RM758 million.
Building a Rapid Transit System (HTS) linking Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Building the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR).
Building the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL) from Port Klang to Pengkalan Kubor.
Building the Gemas-Johor Bahru dual-track railway line.
Upgrading the Klang Valley dual-track railway line involving repair work along 42 kilometres (km) of railway tracks.
Building a world-class modern port in Carey Island as the latest maritime hub with an investment of RM200 billion. This will significantly propel Malaysia’s competitiveness in the region’s port services industry.
Building an electrified railway line from Subang Jaya to the Subang Skypark Terminal as part of the integration of railway transportation.
Upgrading transportation infrastructure in Labuan through the construction of bridges and ferry terminals to attract investors and tourists.
Completing the West Coast Expressway from Banting to Taiping by 2020.
Upgrading Langkawi’s jetty facilities, terminal and Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex with an allocation of RM86.5 million to attract more tourists and foreign investment.
Building and upgrading bridges in critical areas such as in Batang Lupar, Temerloh, Kota Tinggi and Batang Kali.
Expanding the Multi-Product Pipeline (MPP) coverage area by 600km to increase distribution efficiency in Peninsular Malaysia.
Building the Central Spine Road connecting Kelantan, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan to reduce traffic congestion and drive new economic growth in the East Coast Economic Corridor.
Increasing the Klang Valley’s public transportation network with the construction of phase 3 of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT).
Building a 140 km natural gas pipe line from Ayer Tawar to Ipoh.
Establishing new modern and green urban developments along public transportation lines such as the East Coast Rail Line (ECRL), HSR and Gemas-Johor Bahru Dual-Track Railway Line.
Establishing an integrated Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) that covers every type of transportation and traffic throughout the country.
Completing the third phase of the East Coast Expressway.
Upgrading Electric Train Service (ETS) coaches.
Upgrading roads and traffic dispersion at existing ports to control congestion and increase trade.
Building the Perlis Inland Port (PlP) in Chuping Valley to increase handling capacity to 2 million containers (TEUs) a year.
Electricity supply and spur economic growth in Sabah.
Repairing KTM coaches and locomotives.
Repairing the railway tracks and bridges in the East Coast.
Upgrading and maintaining federal roads on a regular basis as an alternative to tolled highways.
Promoting optimal use of electricity through installation of smart metering and LED lights that will benefit 8.5 million users nationwide.
Increasing the usage of electric buses in stages to reduce emission of carbon dioxide.
Upgrading 12,500 km of rural roads.
Upgrading drainage and irrigation systems in 143 locations to increase paddy output throughout the country.
Establishing 3 sewerage schemes in Sabah.
Upgrading 422 km of roads in Felda areas.
Building and upgrading 830 km of plantation roads to increase accessibility to small farms.
Enhancing the inter-connectivity agenda between rural areas through construction of 383 small bridges throughout the country.
Adding more streetlights in Felda settlement areas. Upgrading 419 km of sewerage pipelines in Felda areas.
Building four Regional Sewage Treatment plants and a Sewerage Pipeline Network in Peninsular Malaysia.
Adding signage, road markings and streetlights along 1,240 km of roads in Felda areas to increase road safety.
Building a Regional Sewage Treatment Plant in Tunjong, Kelantan encompassing a 34.9 km of sewerage pipeline that will benefit 300,000 residents.
Upgrading 623 kilometres of roads in paddy growing areas for better transportation of paddy. — Bernama
