PETALING JAYA, Feb 28 — Police have captured a 31-year-old man who allegedly molested a student at the Masjid Jamek LRT station last December.

The man was captured on Saturday afternoon by two plainclothes members of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s auxiliary police while he was alighting from a train at the Imbi Monorail station.

“The auxiliary policemen were patrolling when they came across the suspect and immediately arrested him, Prasarana said in a statement.

“Upon further investigations, the suspect admitted he was the one captured in closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) stills following the incident last year.”

The statement said the suspect was then brought to the auxiliary police station to be documented before he was handed over to the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters.

On Dec 14 last year, a 20-year-old polytechnic student alleged she was molested while on the escalator within the LRT station.

Her assailant was said to have approached her from behind and rubbed his genitals on her before escaping through the crowd.

“Following the incident, his image which was captured on the CCTVs was downloaded and once he was identifiable, a manhunt was launched,” Prasarana added.

It added that all its facilities were monitored by security personnel, and advised commuters to quickly report any incidents or suspicious behaviour to their bus captains, station operators, or the auxiliary police.

“A majority of cases were solved not long after information was relayed to us directly, as investigations would be difficult to conduct without cooperation from all parties, especially the victims,” the statement read.

Last year, a Twitter user alleged that her friend was molested while on the LRT and accused Prasarana staff of not responding.
