SUNGAI PETANI, Jan 10 — Kedah police seized 165.5kg of what was believed to be ganja (cannabis) worth RM496,500 after they arrested two men in a raid at a hypermarket car park in Seberang Jaya, Penang, last Monday.
Kedah police chief, Datuk Asri Yusoff said in the 3.15pm raid, a team from the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department had initially conducted a body search on the suspects, aged 27 and 41, at the location but they did not find any prohibited item.
“Police then took the duo and their (Naza Citra and Perodua Alza) cars to the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters to conduct further inspection on the vehicles,” he told a press conference at the Kuala Muda district police headquarters, here, today.
Asri said during the inspection, they found two white sacks containing 60 slabs of what were believed to be ganja weighing 61.9kg in the Naza Citra car and three sacks with 100 slabs of the drug weighing 103.6kg in the other vehicle.
Both the suspects, one of them a meat seller at a market and the other, a food stall operator, were tested positive for drugs, he added.
