BERA, March 15 — Five men armed with two parang broke into a pawnshop in Kampung Baru, Triang and fled with jewellery worth RM70,000 here on Monday.
Bera police chief DSP Mansor Samsudin said in the 9am incident the shop owner and his wife who were not aware that robbers had already broken into the shop started their usual work routine which included opening the vault where the jewellery was kept.
“The robbers who wore masks bound the couple before fleeing with six trays of jewellery as well as the victim’s IPhone 7 worth about RM2,000,” he said in a press conference here today.
The suspects who are believed to be locals and Myanmar citizens, in their 20 and 30s, escaped through the back door and into the bushes.
“Initial investigations revealed that the suspects had turned off the CCTV before robbing the shop. The police are now actively on the trail of the suspects who are believed to have fled in a vehicle,” Mansor said.
