KUCHING, Nov 13 — A Sarawak Opposition leader today accused the state government of overindulging in the rhetoric of the Malaysia Agreement over the past few months while totally neglecting the daily sufferings of the people due to the high cost of living.
“As for us DAP, we are of the view that the agreement is an important issue, but the most important issue is the daily sufferings of the people due to the escalating cost of living and mismanagement of economy by the Barisan Nasional government,” Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen told reporters.
He said the real issues, like the escalating cost of living, had been superseded by the rhetoric of the Malaysia Agreement which is now becoming the game of the political elites.
Meanwhile, Sarawak PKR leader Baru Bian said there is nothing new about Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak telling the people of Sabah and Sarawak that the federal government is ready to discuss the Malaysia Agreement with the two Borneo states.
“We have no confidence in this statement, especially when he is just about to face the 14th general election,” Baru, who is also the state assemblyman for Ba’Kelalan, said, adding that Najib had been saying the same thing before the Sarawak state elections earlier this year.
