PETALING JAYA, Oct 7 — Police believe they have found the car that was used in a robbery near the guardhouse of the Ara Putra residential area in Ara Damansara at 3.40am Wednesday.

The Honda Civic was found in Desa Ria at about 5.30pm the same day.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said investigations showed the vehicle, which had a fake number plate, was stolen from a Customs Department officer on September 23 in Kelana Jaya.

Zani said as the patrol car stopped behind the car, the suspect backed into the patrol car before speeding off. This followed a 2km chase that ended at Desa Mentari.

“The suspect rammed into the patrol car as they reached a traffic light junction, prompting an officer to open fire at the suspect’s car,” he said.

The shots hit the windscreen and engine forcing the car to stop. The suspect fled on foot.

“In the car, we found nine packets containing powder believed to be heroin, weighing about 9g, a parang that is believed to be used in the robbery and a helmet,” he said.

During the robbery, the suspect had driven up behind two women in a car at the guardhouse.

He got out with a parang and tried to rob the women but they put up a struggle and managed to escape.

The incident was caught by two closed-circuit television cameras and widely shared on social network.

Zani said the security guard on duty should have been more proactive.

“He should have helped the women, but did not do anything as they were not living in that neighbourhood,” he said, adding the Nepalese security guard also failed to report the incident.

He said the victims, both 22-year-old college students, lost their mobile phones, a handbag, personal documents and RM1,000 but were not injured.

He said the case was being investigated for armed robbery, attempted murder of police officers, and illegal possession of drugs.
