SEPANG, Oct 6 ― All nine Australian men who stripped down to expose their Malaysian flag briefs during the Formula One Malaysian Grand Prix over the weekend pleaded guilty today to being public nuisances.
The nine, aged 25 to 29, were charged under Section 290 of the Penal Code at the Sessions Court here today.
Jack Walker, policy adviser to the Australian Defence Minister, was among the nine charged.
The others were Timothy Yates, Tom Whitworth, Tom Laslett, Nick Kelly, Edward Leaney, Branden Stobbs, James Paver, and Adam Pasfield.
The alleged offence was committed while they were celebrating fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo's triumph during the F1 race.
The charge carries a maximum fine of RM400 upon conviction.
But all nine of them were released with only a warning after Sessions Court judge Harith Sham Mohamed Yasin invoked Section 173A of the Criminal Procedure Code to dismiss the charges against them.
All nine were remanded for four days after being arrested around 5pm on Sunday, October 2.
