SUNGAI BESAR, Aug 31 ― Sungai Besar Umno division chief Datuk Jamal Md Yunos today cancelled a special trip to Dubai he previously promised to party leaders under him.
Citing the need to preserve the feelings of those who could not go on the holiday, Jamal said he will instead distribute the funds meant for the trip directly to the Umno leaders and committee members.
“Five months ago, I promised to division leaders and committee members that before we face the general election, we will bring them for a holiday to Dubai.
“From the 115 leaders in the division, only 81 wanted to go. The rest said they can’t and gave many reasons.
“So, today, I want to announce the cancellation of the Dubai trip, because I don’t want anyone to feel upset, since some can go and some cannot go,” he said in his speech at the Sungai Besar Umno division meeting.
“The cost for the holiday, we shall share it. Shared with the delegates,” he said to thunderous applause from the Umno delegates in the hall.
Also present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister and Umno acting deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Pontian MP and Umno Informational Technology unit head Datuk Ahmad Maslan, Sungai Besar MP Budiman Mohd Zohdi, Deputy Home Minister Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, Kuala Selangor MP Datuk Irmohizam Ibrahim, and Tanjong Karang MP and Selangor Umno chief Tan Sri Noh Omar.
