PUTRAJAYA, Feb 24 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today that no conflict would succeed in undoing the many nation-building efforts of leaders before him but said Malaysians should help the administration maintain national harmony.

The prime minister said to achieve this, Malaysians need to have a sense of belonging and must uphold the Federal Constitution and the five principles of the Rukunegara.

“Many efforts were made in the past so no conflict can bring down this country today. But this process cannot be stopped. Because the process of building a nation takes a long time,” he said in his speech when handing out appointment letters to members of the Committee for the Understanding and Harmony Among Religious Adherents.

“We need to go through a continuous journey to strengthen this multi-racial society. For the sake of national harmony, this has to done consciously and not just left on its own.

“Because Malaysia is now harmonious. Conflict is at (a) minimal stage but we must move on to an ideal situation. We need a community that respects the sense of belonging,” he added.

The 28 members who received their appointment letters today are religious leaders, representatives from non-governmental organisations, youth leaders and academics.

The panel is headed by Datuk Azman Amin Hassan while Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom oversees the committee.

Formed in 2010, the committee was established to promote religious harmony by bridging relations among Malaysia’s many different creeds and races.
