GEORGE TOWN, Jan 28 — Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) is offering a 20 per cent discount on toll rates for all vehicle classes at Jambatan Sultan Abdul Halim Muádzam Shah (JSAHMS) from 12 midnight to 11.59pm on Feb 8.
JKSB Managing Director Datuk Ir Ismail Mohamed Taib said, the discount is part of their on-going corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives and to show sincere appreciation to users, especially on this festive season.
“Those who are entering the bridge via JSAHMS toll plaza at Batu Kawan and from PLUS highways via plaza A of Bandar Cassia integrated toll plaza will be enjoying this rate,” he said in a statement here today.
He said, close to 100,000 vehicles used JSAHMS during the Chinese New Year last year to get to Penang island from the mainland and vice versa.
“By June this year, JKSB will implement a full Electronic Toll Collection system at JSAHMS toll plaza in Batu Kawan, and all vehicles crossing to the island will have to pay the toll via Touch n Go card or Smart Tag only,” he added.
Ismail said, the number of vehicles using JSAHMS to Penang island daily is expected to increase at least 20 per cent, once the new Bayan Lepas Expressway, under the purview of Jabatan Kerja Raya (JKR) is completed and opened to the public in the second quarter of 2016.
“The new expressway will provide a direct access from Batu Maung to Bayan Baru, near Queensbay Mall and then straight to George Town in the northern part of the island,” he said. — Bernama
