KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — PKR’s Nurul Izzah Anwar today said she still loves Sabah even after its state assembly passed a motion to ban her from entering the state over her controversial meeting Sulu ‘princess’ Jacel Kiram.

Nurul Izzah admitted she was “upset” over the ban, but said she respected the Sabah state assembly’s decision.

“I am extremely disappointed and upset. Whatever it may be, I respect the decision of the Sabah state assembly although it really pains me, I love the state,” the Lembah Pantai MP said when met outside the Bukit Aman police headquarters before having her statement recorded by police on the meeting.

“I will fully work to the end to clear my name when again there is no basis to any of the allegations made,” she added.

Yesterday, the Sabah legislative assembly voted in favour of a motion to ban Nurul Izzah and fellow PKR lawmaker, Chua Tian Chang, from entering the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah, who tabled the motion under Standing Order 31(3), claimed the duo’s actions were tantamount to treason, noting that Jacel is the daughter of self-styled Sulu “sultan” Jamalul Kiram III, who is said to be the mastermind behind the Lahad Datu invasion two years ago.

Under Jamalul’s orders, 200 armed men had attacked Sabah in February 2013 to stake the sultanate’s claim over the state, resulting in the death of 10 Malaysian security personnel.
