KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 27 — Former Gopeng Wanita Umno chief Datuk Hamidah Osman claimed today to still be in the dark over her expulsion from the party, and said she will write to the leadership to seek an explanation.

According to Malaysiakini, Hamidah told a press conference in Ipoh that she had still yet to receive any formal notice on her sacking from Umno.

“Up until today, I have not received any letters (about the sacking). I only found out on television. I am still unclear as to why I was sacked,” she was quoted saying.

The press conference was called by Hamidah today to formally respond to the Umno supreme council’s decision on Tuesday to expel her from the party.

According to Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor yesterday, Hamidah was sacked for attending an opposition function and not because she had invited Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to speak at a recent event in Ipoh.

Tengku Adnan said the party received information that she had spoken out against the current leadership at the opposition event, although he did not specify further details on the matter.

It was previously speculated that Hamidah was sacked because she had organised a Bicara Negara event at Tower Regency Hotel, Ipoh, where Dr Mahathir had spoken out against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and criticised him over several issue including 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
