PETALING JAYA, May 27 — Joshua Wong, the face of Hong Kong’s umbrella revolution, was ejected from Malaysia because he is deemed an “undesirable” person, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
The country’s national police chief said the authorities are aware of how the 17-year-old had actively organised “illegal demonstrations in Hong Kong and other places”.
“We do not accept undesirable people to come to our country,” Khalid told a news conference here.
Wong was detained yesterday by immigration officers and subsequently deported shortly after landing at the Penang International Airport.
He later claimed during a Skype conference call at a forum last night that the Malaysian authorities were “extreme” for deporting him when he had no intention of speaking out against Malaysia’s ruling administration.
Khalid today brushed aside Wong’s accusation, saying that Malaysia’s authorities will not allow foreigners to visit the country only to instigate public shows of dissent or demonstrations.
“He can give any argument that he wants, we don’t want him,” he said.
