KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — A 20-year-old has bought two tins of biscuits laced with marijuana on Facebook for RM120, according to a Harian Metro report.

The Malay-language tabloid reported today sources as saying that the 20-year-old, who was arrested by the police Sunday, purchased the biscuits from a pro-cannabis Facebook page called “Gerakan Edukasi Ganja Malaysia” [Marijuana Education Movement Malaysia].

“One tin of the biscuits cost RM60. The suspect ordered two tins for RM120,” Harian Metro quoted an anonymous source as saying.

The paper also said it discovered that the Facebook page owner pushed buyers onto his or her Instagram account, where followers reportedly said the product could make consumers high.

The “Gerakan Edukasi Ganja Malaysia” Facebook page, which is liked by 20,000 people, denied yesterday that it facilitated sales.

It also featured quotes from people like US actress and activist Susan Sarandon, who was cited as saying that no one should be imprisoned for possessing marijuana as it is a substance that causes less damage than alcohol.

US paper The Huffington Post reported yesterday that 23 states in America have legalised marijuana for medical purposes, while 19 states have decriminalised the possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use.

Malaysia has strict drug laws, including against marijuana, that provide for the death penalty.
