KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 22 — Police will take firm action against an individual who recorded and spread a video clip of a singer who was singing while being handcuffed during custody.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in his official Twitter page said the case would be investigated.
“The Royal Malaysian Police will investigate and take action against the person who recorded and uploaded the video of the singer when he was being handcuffed,” he said.
The one minute 23 second video showed the singer singing one of his popular songs and the video had gone viral on Facebook. It was condemned by various quarters who regarded the action as bullying and tarnishing the image of the singer.
Yesterday, the singer and his female companion were detained by police as they were believed to have drugs in a raid at a house here.
A plastic package which was suspected to contain 1.2g of heroine was found in a room and the couple were remanded for four days.
Meanwhile four witnesses, including two policemen, were called up to give statements on the case of spreading the video clip.
Ampang Jaya district police chief, ACP Khairuldin Saad, said the two other witnesses who gave the statements were the singer and his girlfriend.
“Their statements were taken today. We will carry out an internal investigation and we believe it was done by more than one person, he told reporters, here today. — Bernama
